MRL’S REAL ESTATE DEPARTMENT OFFERS many services for utilizing railroad property. We are dedicated to supporting MRL’s primary activity – transporting freight. Using rail property for any purpose may involve the resolution of complex issues, which is why all applications go through a rigorous administrative review process. Please make note of the timelines and important instructions involved with each application process.
What do you need to do?
Application to occupy railroad property for environmental investigation, clean up due to contamination, or other environmental remediation activities.
Request for copy of an agreement, invoice, change to billing address, or any other documents related to your account with MRL.

PIPELINE | WIRELINE
Applications for a pipeline or wireline encroachment on railroad property.
For any projects in which people and equipment will be within 25 feet of railroad tracks, a Flagger is required.
Team track leases are available to our rail shippers with a one time, or occasional, need to transload cars.
Montana Rail Link limits uses of leased railroad properties. Certain uses are never permitted.
Applications for existing road crossing can be made online. Please contact MRL Real Estate for new installations.
