Please note that this is not a comprehensive list and Montana Rail Link reserves the right to prohibit any use.

  1. Storage of hay and/or straw.
  2. New residential uses.
  3. Domestic water wells.
  4. Use of existing Railroad fireguard road for applicant’s convenience. Applicant must build road on own property unless otherwise approved by the MRL Engineering Department.
  5. Electrical transformer repair or reconditioning.
  6. Wood treatment/tie plant.
  7. Salvage operation, junk yard (including junk vehicles) or scrap dealer (unless salvaging railroad materials).
  8. Battery recycling.
  9. Tire storage or recycling.
  10. Any type of material recycler, reconditioning, reclamation, or recovery operation.
  11. Landfill, incinerator and waste disposal operations of any kind.
  12. Surface impoundment, waste pile.
  13. Above ground or underground storage tanks (some exceptions may apply on a case-by-case basis).
  14. Electroplating operation.
  15. Mining, ore processing, refining, or smelting.
  16. Fuel blending, waste or used oil recycling or reclamation
  17. Explosive disposal, manufacturing or detonation.
  18. Leather tanning.
  19. Electrical machinery manufacturing and repair.
  20. Petrochemical refining.
  21. Automotive repair and service station.
  22. Bulk oil storage.
  23. Machinery degreasing operations.
  24. Cement kiln.
  25. Laundry and/or dry cleaner.
  26. Any chemical manufacturing or processing operation, including:
  • Industrial organic or inorganic chemicals
  • Plastics, synthetic resins or synthetic rubber
  • Paints, pigments, lacquers, enamels, varnishes, and allied products
  • Solvents
  • Soap, detergents and cleaning preparations
  • Perfumes, cosmetics and other toiletry preparations
  • Agricultural chemicals
  • Pesticides
  • Fertilizers
  • Wood preservatives
  • Drugs
  • Miscellaneous chemicals such as adhesives, printing ink and carbon black
