Wireline Longitudinal

When applying for a Longitudinal Wireline Encroachment on railroad property, the following must be submitted to the Property Management Division:

  • A completed Application, plans and drawings of the proposed project (three sets of each)
  • A non-refundable $600 review fee, check or money order made payable to Montana Rail Link, Inc.

Once MRL's Engineering Department has reviewed and approved your application, the documentation necessary to draft a wireline permit will be forwarded to the Property Management Division. Once the agreement has been drawn up you will receive the originals for signature.

Before construction can commence:

  • All executed copies of the agreement must be forwarded to the Property Management Division along with a $325.00 processing fee and payment for the first year's permit fee. Your check or money order must be made payable to Montana Rail Link, Inc.
  • Proof of insurance in the form of a certificate from an approved insurance carrier following the agreement and one week's notice of the schedule of work. Railroad Protective Insurance may be required.
  • You, or your contractor, must have a copy of the fully executed agreement on site during construction.

While the project is underway, the Engineering department will assign a contract engineer and/or flagman to observe the work to ensure that it meets the agreed upon construction specifications. The actual cost of construction inspection and/or the flagmen will be billed to the permit holder.
