Site Leases

When considering a request to lease railroad property, the following guidelines must be submitted to the Property Management Division:

  • A cover letter giving a detailed explanation of the intended use of the site;
  • A completed Site Lease Application. The application request must include the legal description, a railroad milepost, a plat, or railroad map, showing the area being applied for;
  • Please review the List of Prohibited Uses prior to submitting your request.

The processing of your request requires reviews by several internal departments during which the condition and value of the property will be verified. This review process generally takes three to six months.

Once your application is approved a lease agreement will be drafted and forwarded to you for your signature. The agreement will outline the conditions and terms of the lease, along with any insurance requirements. If your intended use requires construction of improvements Railroad Protective Insurance may be required.

You may not occupy or use railroad property until you have received a fully executed agreement.
