Billboards

Occasionally MRL elects to approve a new site for a billboard. There are many safety and operating concerns involved, therefore each site will be evaluated by various railroad departments for acceptable conditions for sign placement.

Please complete the Billboard Application and forward three copies to Property Management along with a non-refundable $500 application fee and a site plan clearly illustrating dimensions of site needed, size of billboard, distance from tracks or other railroad structures, point of access and advertising subject.

General Guidelines:

  • Access to sign sites will not be permitted over tracks unless approved by railroad. Applicant may be required to sign a separate access agreement.
  • Sign sites should be located as far from road crossings as possible.
  • Minimum distance between centerline of nearest track and nearest sign support is 25 feet.
  • Minimum distance between centerline of nearest track and nearest part of sign (face, lights, cat walk) is 15 feet.
  • Minimum distance from top of rail, at grade, to bottom of sign face is 15 feet.
