RULES
Railroads operate using rulebooks
as instructions for its employees to conduct themselves in
a safe and productive manner.
Current Rulebooks in effect:
- General Code of Operating Rules
- Air Brake/Train Handling Rules
- General Safety Rules
- Mechanical Department Operating Rules Book
- Manager of Train Movement Rules Book
- Maintenance of Way Operating Rules Book
Most railroads west of the Mississippi
River use the General Code of Operating Rules. Montana Rail
Link is a member of the General Code of Operating Rules Committee
and represents the
American Short Line and Regional Railroads as a voting
member.
Operations Testing
The MRL Operations
Testing Policy provides a program for supervisors to evaluate
employee performance and ensure safety and rules compliance
in the operation of the railroad. Tests must be unannounced
and simulate actual conditions giving consideration to weather,
train operations, visibility, grade, and other relevant factors.
Employees are graded on performance and may receive discipline
for violations.
