It is important to Montana Rail Link to give back to the communities that we serve.
Our culture of philanthropy includes our giving as a company as well as our support of the
Dennis & Phyllis Washington Foundation,
which is funded through a portion of our profits as well as the profits of other participating
Washington Companies. Since its inception in 1988, the Foundation has given over $60 million in the
areas of: Arts & Culture, Community Service, Education and Health & Human Services. The preference of the
Foundation is to fund scholarships for financially needy youth seeking to attend higher education and nonprofit
organizations that serve economically and socially disadvantaged individuals and their families. The
foundation can be accessed at www.dpwfoundation.org.
We also realize that the success we enjoy as a company is due to the strong work ethic, talents and professionalism of our employees and we are grateful for their efforts.
Montana Rail Link employees also contribute significantly to the communities in which they live by donating their time, financial resources and expertise to help hundreds of community based organizations they are passionate about.
The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation created the Pay It Forward program that provided 220 giving cards in the amount of $250 each to Washington Companies’ employees. These cards were given by employees to their favorite charity.
Over 100 MRL employees received giving cards; some of whom even chose to match the donation amount for a total individual donation of $500. Card givers were asked to share the story of their charitable gift online, and the stories are rolling in!
Receiving charities were diverse; selected because the organization had touched the giver’s life in some way or simply because the giver recognized a need. The stories told by those receiving the opportunity to give the gift of $250 are commendable and oftentimes very touching.
